Volunteer Training

Our volunteers attend a one-hour training workshop to learn more about our academic program. During the training, we go over the structure of the tutoring sessions, review materials, and go over the mission and values we embody as an organization.

Following the training session, interested volunteers can schedule a shadowing visit to observe a tutoring session with an experienced tutor. Volunteers will receive materials on best tutoring practices and will have continuous on-site support from program staff.

As part of our goal to foster a collaborative adult learning environment for students, staff, and volunteers, we welcome proposals for additional programming or alternative approaches.

Volunteer Orientations are offered as needed. Please contact Amy (amy@durhamliteracy.org) for more information.
