Kate has been working in the education field in Durham for the last 20 years. She has been the co-director of a tutoring program for at-risk youth in northern Durham, taught at several Durham charter schools, and worked as a private tutor.
Kate first came to the Achievement Academy as a volunteer one summer when it was housed on Knox Street under the original director, Sandee Washington. She fell in love with the program and came back again as a volunteer several years later.
Kate joined the staff of AAD in January of 2011 as the math and science teacher and afternoon tutoring coordinator. She later took on the role of lead teacher with additional responsibilities related to the overall academic program. In April 2016, Kate became the Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. Kate still loves to teach math when she gets the chance.
