Allie Brown began volunteering at AAD shortly after moving to Durham in 2015. Although she soon found a full-time job and could not continue tutoring, she kept the program in mind as she considered her future. About six months later, she took a part-time summer job so she could resume volunteering. Fortunately, the AmeriCorps position would open up a few months later and Kate invited Allie to apply. Allie seized the opportunity to serve full-time at the organization she had grown to love while gaining valuable training through AmeriCorps.
Her background in sociology and passion for education led her to consider a career in the nonprofit sector. After completing Duke’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management program, she was certain she had found a career path she would love. She is continuing her education by earning a master’s degree in public administration.
